I was driving pass Masjid Jamek Jalil Hassan in Kampung Pasir Putih when the corner of my eye caught sight of tell tale white smoke from an ikan bakar stall at the intersection. I instinctively pulled over to check out this potential good makan (eating) place.

Shy uncle politely asked if he could take pictures of the fish 😊

This was their response 😄

I like this place already 😀

Grilled fish like stingray, sea bass, tilapia, cencaru, catfish etc are pre-grilled and displayed on trays.

Once there is an order, the pre-grilled fish is finished over charcoal.

This was my order, Ikan Pari (stingray) and rice (price RM16).

The stingray was finished over charcoal and served slathered with a thick coat of sambal chili which almost completely covered the fish.

The sambal chili was savoury-salty spicy.

The grilled stingray was slightly toasty due to a bit of char at the edges outside. Inside, it was tender and moist. But, the meat wasn't very sweet as it wasn't the freshest.

I splashed the tender white rice with asam pedas which was deliciously savoury spicy.

The zesty spicy savoury kicap pedas sauce was very nice, nicer than the sambal chili blanketing the ikan pari.

I enjoyed my meal today at AS Ikan Bakar. The nice kampung feel and friendly staff got a lot to do with it. I like the open, airy space under a tent. It's quite cool despite the blazing sun - the big fans helped. Simple furnishings and very clean environment. There's wash basin for hand washing and it was well stocked with tissue paper too.

I would love to be back with a few kakis to party with all the different grilled fish. I am sure that we will have a great time.
